-Speaking from Experience - film -

in the video of the good the bad and the ugly is a prime example of what i want to achieve at the end of my film repeated cuts between the main character and a clock getting quicker and quicker. In the film it is of the cowboys eyes and hands.

Here is a comedy take on cheap 1970's B movies which i found. It has purposefully bad shots and editing which makes it a brilliant a parody of that era. It also includes the close up shots of the eyes which i will include in my film.

Here is a trailer for the 2009 film 'Black Dynamite' which is a modern comedy in the style of 1970's blaxploitation films. It has brilliant 70's funk which gives it a authentic retro feel, which i will try to imitate in my trailer. It also has deliberate bad shots and obvious mistakes.

- Graphic Design -

-IMAGE -I like this image because it reminded me of my vogue poster brief by i really like the composition with the trailer on the left and the subtle saturations of blues/ purples and blacks.
Love this collage of photos because the subtle fade on the edge of the dark blue background and the fish eye photographs grouped together to give a sense of inside and outside.

Brilliant illustration and colours used on the person and his bike make him stand out from the other dull grey people which suggests that this individual is different.
Brilliant pencil drawing of a black bird/crow, i like the way its not finished and there is a white circle around the pink diamond to draw focus to it.

These images of insects caught my eye because they looked like robots and i like the way they are all different shades of grey.

I thought it was a clever idea to make the character of the film 'The Big Lebowski" out of the tape of the film.
In the same concept a music tape has been music to make the image of John Lennon. The tape that plays the music which become obsolete is now a used as a visual to the music.
I am fascinated by globes and maps in general, i thought it was interesting to mix up a disco ball with the globe.
Looks like an illusion, the black and white react together which make them look like they are moving. Reminded me of 1960's artist Bridget Riley.

Amazing photograph works really well because you cant see the ride that the children are one and the sun in the middle makes it feel you are looking up. The nice not 60/70's photography gives it a nostalgic feel.
The different coloured circles and face parts gives this piece an intriguing feel, the doodles, numbers and grid paper make it look like its done in a maths exercise book.

Graphic Design doesn't all ways have to be in print medium, this coat hanger i thought was very original and makes a boring coat hanger more appealing

This sculpture being built in china is of thousands of metal rods. Thought it looked out of this world.
Thought this advert was ingenious the simple shapes on the left are easily recognisable as Hitler and the one on the right the same but with a hat, which looks like Charlie Chaplin. With the line 'its the hat' giving you the impression that hats make everything better. I think the stock used make it look quality too.

This is an example of BAD graphic design, for the Olympics i would of thought they would get something that looks good. But it looks like random shapes, the font is terrible. Even London doesn't have a capitol 'L'. The colours used are also an insult to my eyes.

-IMAGE AND TEXT-
This i think looks amazing. It has brilliant illustrations put together in a cool collage and works really well on a grey background. Which makes the white text look vibrant. The pink circle on the right brings a bit of colour to it and gives somewhere for more info. The slight opacity of the pink circle look good to because with doesn't bring to much focus away from the title and drawings.
Simple and clever idea that Gold is at one end of the rainbow and Paul Smith is at the other. Think the non generic rainbow pastel colours are different and work really well.

Again illusion-esque image at the top works well with the white text below it, I like the sans serif font because it goes well with the image. The image in the back is really visually appealing and goes brilliantly well with the gold and white text. I don't like the font its self though, because of the thin lines and bold shapes make it illegible.

Nice hand rendered look with a well thought out message.

I liked how they have done every other word in a different colour to make it legible. The layering of the circle cropped images with different opacities looks brilliant too.

This looks good because of the worn edges and the look like its been folded in quarters. The arrangement on the hexagons looks good too.

The illustration of the lamp is amazing, looks like old illustrations for books. The deep yellow works well with the black and cream too. I was mostly drawn to this poster because of the skeleton playing the drums in side the lamp because i love drums.
Really simple black and cream design giving the impression of a cats eye. Less is more.
The old worn yellow paper looks vintage which works well with the the old film that it is advertising which is 'The Bullitt' which is famous for an epic car chase which this poster is using, looking into the rear view mirror to see the car chasing you.
Good detailed drawing of the donkey. The font looks hand written which makes it personal and it is funny.

This is one of my favourites. I love the photograph because of the colours within it and the fade into what looks like mist. The simple line 'Just This' brings up lots of questions in my mind to. Rather than underlining it they have put a dotted line which makes its different and visually appealing.
The colours used are that of a Rainbow which works well with the name in the top right hand corner. The spacing to the repeated circles make it visually appealing and it a vintage 70's feel.

The bold and normal font in the title make it stand out and works well along side the big black bold animal silhouettes

Thought is was very clever making the cow into the shape of America and its States for and American dinner. The Grey yellow and white work well also because the yellow it very bright and highlights certain aspects of the poster.

I like the different shades of blue used in this gig poster. The text looks like its flowing down the beard which makes the whole poster (along with the blue) look like water.

This gig poster is very bold and eye catching, it uses lots of colours and a edited picture of a forest reflected onto water. The black forest/reflection of the forest is broken up by a white feather which is the focus of the poster because it is the only pure white object in the poster

The bright pink and dark red work really well and the jelly fish covering most of the text makes it look like its moving.
Like the slightly off edges of the paper the look of it been used. The black schematic like drawing of the plane works well with the white text. The two coloured circles above the plane tie it all together.
This gig poster is works because it only uses one colour and is really simple with lots of negative space so your eye is drawn to the image and then to the text.

+
Briliant composition
the griany textured backgroud
the old pictures used, old scuba divers, robots

Another gig poster appealed to my because it looks like a really old advert made in the early 20th century and the title at the top is very detailed and interesting.

-TEXT-
Like how the word makes the shape of a bomb. They have dropped the 'F bomb' . The black scratched text looks good against the orange because it stands out against the bright colour.

This typography gives the impression that everything is getting sucked into the centre or the void, it works really well because the different strokes making up the swirling liquid.
Really like these old looking baggage tags for airports, the old card gives it a nice texture and the blue and red works well because it stands out.
This letter form of an 'S' stood out because of its curves and gold highlights

This has amazing detail and gives the word an eye catching quality, also reminded me of Si Scott whose work i also enjoy
This works well because the light blue background compliments the white font in a subtle way and could also represent the generic colours of pj's

This logo for Clear Spring Partners works well because the C is broken up into different sections but all use different shades blue making them connected. The colour blue also has connotations of being clear and is the colour of water-clear spring.
The the characters in this font look like square and work really well with the colourful background which makes the text stand out. The message is also very powerful.

Mio Modo is apparently one of Leeds' most popular restaurants but there sign that is used all over the restaurant is horrible. It looks like word art. Makes them look cheap and tacky, this shows that well thought out graphics can make a shop or restaurant or pretty much everything look classy and respectable.

I reall like the stripes taken out of the '9' 'a' and 'o'. Using the cool blue along with the pictures of the mountains with in the font gives it a chilly look.
