Spiral

This image is used frequently in the film and the colours and composition I think will work well on the cover

Tree of Life imagery

This shot of an attic with a window gets repeated quite a lot in the film which could be used.
This shot of the sun with a small black circle moving across I think is the sun when it reaches the end of its life and expands to an incredible size and the black spot is Earth.

Tree of Life

I have decided to do 'Tree of Life' as a cover for Little White Lies because they have already done 'Black Swan' and 'Drive'. I can't watch 'Tinker Tailer Soldier Spy' and 'Super 8's main character is a kid.

So after watching 'The Tree of Life' I wanted to get some sort of concept to go with the design of the cover. But the film is very ambiguous and dreamy. Its basically about life, childhood, nature and nurture, family and death. These things are hard to 'draw' because they encompass so much.

I looked into imagery as something to use in the design. The film has lots of beautiful visuals to choose from.

Brighton.

For BPKA the client has asked for something iconic of "Brighton" for the logo. The 4 main things that are Brighton all over are the Royal Pavillion, Brighton Pier, The burnt out West pier and Sea guls.

NUTTY FACTS

Some of the most interesting facts I have found on the interwebs

The peanut is the only nut grown underground.

Americans consume 3,750,000 pounds of peanuts daily in all forms

Ninety percent of all pistachios are grown in Turkey and Iran

The macadamia, originating in Australia, was discovered around 1857, but was not harvested until the 1930’s.

The Brazil nut trees grow to a height of 150 feet and have a trunk diameter of nearly eight feet.

Walnuts are native to Persia, the Greeks called the walnut “the nut of Jupiter,” fit for the gods

The United States consumes over 90% of the world’s cashew crop.

The walnut tree is very hardy and is 15 years old before reaching full production.  The average tree produces for 45 years.

Originating in Brazil and Peru and introduced to America by early explorers

Bolivia is now the biggest exporter of brazil nuts.

38% of all walnuts are grown in the U.S.

I remembered this this amazing video for Gnarles Barkley which also got the idea for using Rorschach ink blots for the theme of their video for crazy

Point of sale

I like the general feel of this retail setup in this coffee shop in NYC. There are elements which I like that I may use in my point of sale like  wood and metal together

Wave

This logo is really cool, I like the type in the middle along with the type circling it. The EST.2010 looks really cool also.

Logo Inspiration

I think a circle design for a logo works well and I may take elements from these designs such as the type on a circled path. Lines to join up type at top and bottom.

Artists

These are the illustrators that I think have a brilliant style and are my competition

Mr.Bingo

 Christina K

 Joe Wilson

Good Movie posters

These movie posters are really good. They all have only a small selection of colours which I will consider when designing. Again simplicity and a message are the keys to a great poster/front cover.

Iconic Magazine Covers

The best magazine covers have simplicity to them, a message, nudity, violence, shock or just look weird and cool like the last one.
